What are mini dental implants?

Mini dental implants are also called a "denture stabilization system". They are small "pins" surgically implanted into the jaw bones that serve to anchor your dentures in place.

York PA Mini Dental Implants

If you are on a very tight budget, mini dental implants could be an economical alternative for you. They cost approximately half of what standard implants cost.

Mini dental implants were developed to make the dental implant process less expensive and complex. If you are missing all your teeth, the very best alternative is almost always standard dental implants, but budgetary constraints may make that choice unreasonable.

In this procedure, small "pins" are placed to anchor your dentures. These pins will also serve to help halt the bone loss that occurs in the jaw when teeth are missing.

Advantages of Mini Dental Implants

  • The surgery to place the pins is much simpler, and therefore less expensive.
  • Healing times are shorter, with less swelling and less risk.
  • The pins also halt bone loss at their site of insertion, thus preventing facial collapse, just like the standard root forms do.

Disadvantages of Mini Dental Implants

  • They are not as strong as dental implants, so they can't be used to support a tooth. Their use is limited to helping stabilize a removable denture.
  • They do not provide the natural feel of dental implants, though they do serve to more securely anchor your dentures.
