Initial Exam Information for New Patients
Your initial appointment will usually consist of a complete evaluation including :
- medical and dental history review along with a blood pressure recording
- necessary x-rays
- periodontal examination
- examination of the teeth
- bite and TMJ evaluation
- oral cancer screening with head/neck examination
We generally like to schedule your cleaning after this examination, for a couple of reasons. One is that Dr. Currie’s examination is very thorough and takes quite a bit of time, and this would make your appointment quite long. Also, meshing your exam appointment with a hygiene appointment could mean delays in being able to get you in. Another reason is that we like to see if you have gum disease. Unfortunately, some dentists minimize this important aspect of your dental health, but it affects how we approach your cleaning.
On occasion, for more complex needs, a second appointment may be necessary to review and further discuss treatment alternatives. If this is done, treatment options and associated costs are clearly spelled out before any treatment is started.
We encourage you to involve yourself in your own treatment throughout our relationship. We also would like to know from you what you desire from us as your dental care provider. In our opinion, an informed and involved client is most likely to achieve the highest level of health. We look forward to working with you to achieve this.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your initial visit:
- any duplicate x-rays if applicable
- a list of medications you are presently taking
- if you have dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help process any claims.
IMPORTANT: All patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the first visit.
If your previous dentist has taken recent x-rays (within one year) you may request that they be forwarded to our office. If there is not enough time and are available, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding your appointment.
