I have been interested in porcelain veneers for years. In fact, I have even gone so far as to have a consult with three different cosmetic dentists in York. Well, here’s what I’ve learned. I am a candidate for porcelain veneers. But, I cannot afford them.
So, I was stoked when I saw a Groupon offer for porcelain veneers in my area. The deal has the porcelain veneers done at half the price of what I’ve found at other local cosmetic dentists. I went ahead and scheduled a consultation with the Groupon dentist. Are there any red flags I need to look out for? I love a deal as much as the next guy, but I don’t want to be scammed.

Who doesn’t love a good deal! But, when it comes to cosmetic dentistry treatments like porcelain veneers, you need to be very careful.
Although, many dentists claim to do porcelain veneers, not every dentist will do them well. This is because cosmetic dentistry is not a designated specialty area in dentistry. Therefore, anyone can say they do porcelain veneers.
Here’s the thing. An excellent cosmetic dentist is an artist. It requires extensive training and experience beyond dental school. There will be multiple opportunities for you to see exactly how your new smile will look and they will likely be fabricated by an excellent ceramist. An excellent cosmetic dentist will listen to your desires, match a perfect look to your facial shape, complexion and personality. They will have the ability to create the smile of your dreams.
So, just because the Groupon dentist offers porcelain veneers, does not mean you’ll be satisfied. You need to be sure consider why this dentist’s fees are half price. Where are they cutting corners? Is it in the materials or possible in the lab they are fabricated in? What happens if you don’t love the end result? Will you be paying twice as much to have them redone?
When you meet the Groupon dentist, ask these questions. Ask why the fees are so low. Find out which laboratory they use. Make sure you know their process and what happens if you have some slight changes in the design or if you don’t love your new look. Be sure to get the answers to these questions now. It would also be wise to see a portfolio of their work. Specifically, ask to see examples of before and after photographs of patients he or she has done that are similar to your case.
If you walk out of there feeling like all your questions have been thoroughly answered, and most importantly you feel you can trust this dentist, then, it might not be too good to be true after all.
But, if you cannot confidentially say without a doubt this dentist has the right experience, please do yourself a favor and don’t move forward.
Best of luck!
