Hi Doc,
I’m a tooth grinder, which has done some damage to my teeth. I now wear a mouthguard and was hoping to get either porcelain veneers or Lumineers on my teeth. My dentist told me that because I’m a grinder they’ll just break off. Are there any options for me?

Justin,
You can still get a beautiful smile makeover, even though you grind your teeth. However, I wouldn’t push your current dentist into it. When a dentist expresses hesitation over a procedure, it is generally because they aren’t familiar enough with it to do it well. Your case is especially tricky because of your grinding habit. Don’t worry, though, an expert cosmetic dentist will know how to work around your grinding habit. Porcelain veneers are a great option for you.
I would not recommend Lumineers in your case. The way they are marketed is as a no-prep veneer. That generally makes them a little longer than your normal veneers, which would not be a great fit with someone who grinds their teeth.
